RING AUTOMOTIVE TESTED ON THE MONGAL RALLY
For a third year in a row, Ring Automotive has lent its support to participants on the Mongal Rally
The Rally see entrants race from London to Ulaanbaatar - Mongolia with the aim of raising money for charity and an experience of a life time.
The rules are simple.
No car or team can race unless £1000 has been raised for charity.
Cars should be deemed rubbish and have engine capacity no greater than 1.2 litre
Individuals are responsible for themselves. Participants must sneak bribe and out-wit the world on their journey across countries many people haven’t heard of.
This year we helped the team Yorkshire Terios on their adventure across Europe and Asia.
Having left on 18th of July from Goodwood Sussex, the team travelled nearly a third of the way round the world and reached Ulaanbaatar on the 13th August 2009.
Ring Automotive was delighted to help the team as it is a perfect opportunity to put our products through tough testing conditions demanded by the rally.
As well providing brighter upgrade bulbs, we helped ensure the team could see clearly once tarmac disappeared, with a selection of driving lamps and fog lamps.
Our work lamps became indispensable when it came to pitching camp in the deserts at night.
To make life as comfortable as possible we also provided David and Lawrence with inverters and power packs to ensure they had power to charge electronic gadgets.
The minimum contribution of £1000 entrance was split between three official charities; Christina Noble’s Children’s Foundation, Mercey Corps and Children and Young People’s Protection and Development charity.
David and Lawrence also raised money for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

OVER 2500 CYCLISTS KILLED OR INJURED ON UK ROADS IN 2007
A total of 2,550 12 to 16 olds cyclists were killed or injured in Britain in 2007.
According to the National Audit Office, Britain has a good record for cyclist safety, ranked fourth highest out of 14 European nations for the least number of cyclist’s deaths in 2006. However, between 2004 and 2007 the number of cyclists killed or injured rose 11%, despite the amount of cycling staying broadly constant.
Safety Initiatives have been granted funding to ensure young cyclists have the basic cycling skills and car drivers educated to look out for cyclists.
Rather than just the cyclists ensuring they are visible, motorist could ensure their vehicles are visible to cyclists and other vulnerable road users.
Day Light Running (DRL) involves vehicles having either their headlamps or special light units lit during the hours of daylight, which helps improve the vehicles visibility.
SWOV the Institute for Road Safety Research, in crash studies, have shown that not having seen the other road user plays a role in 50% of daytime crashes. The research shows that visual perception in daytime traffic is far from perfect and it is worse in conditions of poor light and poor weather conditions. Judging vehicle speed is also difficult.
January 2011, will see the introduction of Europe wide legislation that states all cars manufactured after that date will require EU approved daylight running lights to be on at all times.
This measure is designed to reduce road accidents and deaths across Europe.
In anticipation of the change Ring Automotive has introduced a range of daytime running lamps.
The new DRL Aurora, is E marked to reg 87 which is specific to daytime running and uses high power LED bulbs to meet the required brightness levels.
An easy to fit automatic switching module enables the lamps to come on when the ignition is started, as required by the new legislation.
As a Day Light Running Lamp, the Aurora will greatly contrast the car from it surroundings making it more visible to all road users including cyclists, helping reduce accidents.

RECHARGEABLE TRAVEL POWERCHARGER POWERS TO BEST BUY
Ring Automotive's Rechargeable Travel PowerCharger has won Best Buy in Auto Express, edition 1,070.
The review states "Ring proves small can be beautiful. With a good range of charging tips, compact dimensions and a 12v socket adaptor the Ring Rechargeable Travel PowerCharger deserves top spot."
The review also mentions "the tough casing means it stands up to glovebox storage."
Small enough to fit into your pocket, desk drawer, bag or car’s glove compartment, the Rechargeable Travel PowerCharger has been designed to power mobiles, MP3 players, PDAs, digital cameras and games consoles, even when you’re miles from the mains. One charger for all your needs.

STANDING OUT FROM THE CROWD
Legislation on vehicle lighting is changing. From January 2011, EU regulations mean that all new cars in the UK registered after that date will require EU approved daylight running lights (DRLs).
The change in legislation was prompted by a 2006 review, by the European Commission which reported a 13% reduction on fatal accidents across Europe if DRLs were to be fitted to vehicles.
DRLs greatly contrast the car from it surroundings making it more visible, helping reduce accidents.
In preparation for the change, car manufactures have started to design new models with DRLs fitted as standard.
Not only are these vehicles more visible, but the style and look created by the DRLs is now sought after by other motorists.
Ring Automotive has introduced a daytime running lamp range in anticipation of the change in the law. Its flagship product, the Aurora, is E marked to reg 87 which is specific to daytime running and uses high power LED bulbs to meet the required brightness levels. Designed for retrofitting, the lamps will give any vehicle an unmistakable modern look, that is sure to be noticed.
To inform motorists of the benefits of fitting Ring Automotive’s Auroa DRLs, the company has produced an innovative and distinctive point of sale unit.
The counter top stand illustrates the contrast the lamps make to a vehicle’s visibility, but motorists can also see how bright the lamps are by illuminating a DRL with a “Try Me” button.
Look out for the "Try Me" DRL stand at your local Car Accessory Retailer.
Stand out from the crowd, fit now.

RING AUTOMOTIVE INVERTERS POWER AHEAD OF THE COMPETITION
In the second consumer test of its kind this year, Ring Automotive’s 12v inverters have dominated yet again.
In Car Mechanics Magazine, June Edition, Ring Automotive’s MP:75 won Best Buy and Best Budget Buy, while the E:Can+ won Recommended.
Both products were scored on their power out put, their efficiency, voltage performance and practicalities in the car.
The MP:75 won the Best Buy because according to the write up it produces “class-leading electrical efficency, very accurate mains mimicking thanks to an AC output of 227v and max and peak outputs of 75 and 150w respectively makes this an impressive all-rounder.”
It was also awarded the Best Budget buy.
The E:Can + picked up the Recommended award as the tests showed the product to be extremely sound electrically. The USB socket makes it a doddle to charge an almost infinite number of high tech toys

RING AUTOMOTIVE WINS AGAIN
In Auto Express edition No. 1054 Ring Automotive had two products tested – The E:Can+ (RINVC150) and the MP:75 (RINV75).
Both products won awards in the test, confirming that Ring Automotive is the market leader in inverters for consumers.
The E:Can+ won the Best Buy 2009 award, with the MP:75 winning the Recommended 2009 award.
This is a fantastic result and confirms Ring Automotive’s principle of only supplying quality products.
What they said about the E:Can
“One of the first inverters to get a USB and pioneered the cup holder shape.”
“Electrical performance is excellent”
What they said about the MP:75
“A previous Best Buy in 2007”
“One of the lowest standby draws and is efficient”.
Auto Express clearly liked the fact that our inverters were more efficient at converting the power from 12v DC 240v AC.
In the final verdict it is worth noting that the third placed product didn’t, in the writer’s opinion, match the quality of Ring product
‘Black and Decker Power Up looks neat, but it doesn’t seem quite as well thought out as either Ring Product.’
The article can be viewed on the Auto Express Web site at the link
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/products/products/234463/inverters_tested.html
Ring Automotive offers a full range of inverters from the retail products tested today through to high power inverters for continuous professional trade use.
Ring Automotive are delighted with the results as they follow a very successful year of product awards in both the consumer and trade press.

LIGHT YEARS AHEAD
The RIL2750 inspection lamp was awarded Best Buy from the Sunday Times In-Gear Magazine.
The heavy duty, cordless LED Lamp was specifically designed for garages and workshops, but it is equally useful when camping, caravanning or doing DIY in the shed.
28 high intensity LEDs produce a bright, focused light output, illuminating a particular work area.
In the test the Ring Automotive lamp shone above the rest because of the several ways to shine the light hands free.
There is an adjustable stand which doubles up as a hook, plus two powerful magnets on the back, mean it can be attached to any metal surface.
In-Gear Magazine’s verdict on the lamp was Powerful, Practical and can be set up anywhere. 5 Stars.

THE LEADING LIGHT
No matter how much light you have in your garage, you will always be working in shadows once under the bonnet or beneath the car.
That is why inspection lamps are essential garage equipment.
LED technology has allowed greater flexibility in lighting design and durability.
In the edition of Auto Express out on the 07/01/09, a sample of LED Inspection lamps were put through their paces.
Ring Automotive can clearly be seen as the market leader in this area with 5 products tested from a total of 12.
All our products were given positive write ups about the light output they produce –
RIL3000 – “delivered an incredible light output”
RIL3500 – “its intensity was as good as we have come to expect from Ring”
RIL2900 - “Its light out put was similar to the RIL2750, bright”
RIL2550 – “It delivered impressive brightness”
The result was that the RIL2550 won the Auto Express Recommended 2009 award.
Auto Express described the RIL2550 lamp as a “no nonsense lamp, that delivers impressive brightness as well as an excellent spread of light. An all round good choice.
In the verdict its states the RIL2550 price prevented it from winning. The price stated in the magazine is £38.99, however it is more typical for the price to be £34.99

QUALITY POWER SOURCE
Car Cigarette lighters used to be just that, but now with a host of electronic equipment, such as sat navs and FM transmitters, one cigarette socket is not enough.
To cope with this extra demand there are a host of portable car adaptors for the car.
In a recent test carried out by AutoExpress Magazine, Ring Automotive’s RMS10 multisocket was awarded best buy. The RMS7 finished a respectable third in the test.
AutoExpress stated that the RMS10 “ticks just about all our boxes. The twin 12V and USB sockets will handle almost any line-up of kit you may want to use. LEDs warn of the state of the battery and everything has a quality feel, right down to the chunky coiled lead. No plug or socket problems and a neat cup-holder shape make this a winner.”
Both the RMS7 and RMS10 offer both USB and battery ports for charging all the gadgets you can’t live without.

Compressors deliver double success
In the November edition of Which? magazine it was reported that across the country the performance of air pressure pumps at garage forecourts varied greatly, with some not even working.
With motorists being advised that they should check their tyre pressure regularly for safe and more economical driving, Which? Magazine did a consumer test to find the best buys for motorist that want to check their tyre pressure themselves.
Both Ring Automotives RAC750 and RAC600 were awarded Which? magazine’s “Best Buy” after thorough tests.
Both compressors were timed on how long they took to inflate from 0-25psi, then from 25-40psi and finally 40-50psi.
At each stage the compressors were measured for the accuracy.
The compressors were drop tested from a hand held height to simulate being accidentally dropped, and also showered with water to imitate using them when raining.
The award for “Best Buy” from Which? Magazine is another accolade for the RAC600 which has previously been awarded “Best Buy” from Auto Express and “Test Winner” from What Car? Magazine.

Dealing with Pressure
In an AA Motoring Trust Survey carried out in 2005, 53 forecourt garage air compressors were tested .
The result showed that 40% were inaccurate. Some were out by as much as 24% .
Having the correct pressure in your tyres is not only vital for road safety, but fuel economy. Underinflated tyres increase the fuel consumption and the amount of CO2 in the air .
With the majority of motorists using forecourt air compressors, the risk is that most cars are driving around on tyres with incorrect pressure.
A simple method to prevent underinflation is to check the tyres using a pressure gauge.
Ring Automotive’s Digital Tyre Gauge is packed with features to make it easy to check your tyres.
It comes with a red illuminated display and red LED directional light for use at night. It is also duel powered by solar panel and lithium batteries and is fitted with a tyre tread depth gauge.
In a recent Auto Express test, Ring Automotive’s Digital Tyre Gauge received the Recommended Award for 2008. Its accuracy combined with innovative features set it apart from the competition.

Award Winning Torches
Cyba-lite is a range of torches from Ring Automotive designed to meet the exacting standards required by today’s outdoor activities.
Cyba-lite torches are also a must for in the car, especially when extra light is required for road side repairs. In winter torches should be seen as an essential for the glove box.
The Ring Cyba-lite Generator and Auro torches were both tested by Auto Express back in 2007. Back then they both received the Recommended 2007 award.
The Cyba-lite Generator is a self wind-up LED torch. It has a dual light source of a focused beam and a flooding short beam. Auto Express stressed that being an Eco torch did not compromise the performance. A minutes winding up gave 12 minutes of light output.
With the Generator there is no need to be cut short with dead batteries, plus you are doing your bit for the environment.
The Auro is a conventional torch, but powerful and compact. The metal casing is notched to provide grip and prevent rolling when placed on flat surfaces. Auto Express stated, ‘for a good conventional torch look no further.’
Following their strong performance in the product test, both Cyba-lite Generator and Auro received the Auto Express Commended 2008 Product Honour Award in 2008.

MONGOL RALLY
This Sunday saw the start of the annual Mongol Rally. Entrants left London for the capital of Mongolia - Ulaanbaatar with two simple aims; raise money for charity, and experience a true adventure.
The three rules governing the Rally are very straightforward.
1. No car can race unless £1000 has been raised for the designated charities.
2. Cars that race should have an engine size less than 1ltre and be considered rubbish.
3. Individuals are responsible for themselves. Participants must sneak, bribe and out-wit the world to get to Ulaanbaatar. It all makes for good stories.
Last year Ring Automotive helped the team Crimson Monkeys. This year Ring Automotive has helped two teams. The Mongolian Taxi and the team A Very British Adventure.
The Mongolian Taxi will be driven by Ben Corlett and Dave Williams. They will be driving a Suzuki Vitara.
A Very British Adventure will be driven by Lewis Woodcock and Ben Kemp. Strangely they will be driving a Mini with a K6 replica red phone box attached to the roof rack.
Ring Automotive provided the teams with replacement bulbs for their vehicle lights and sets of Ring Automotive accessory lighting, Road Runner driving lamps and Road Runner fog lamps. The driving lamps and fog lamps should prove invaluable as the vehicles go further East where road quickly disappears into wilderness.
Ring Automotive work lamps should also come in handy especially when looking to pitch camp late at night.
We have also provided both teams with E:Can Plus inverters. This should help the teams keep their essential pieces of equipment such as radios and mobile phones fully charged.
All being well we expect the teams to complete the mammoth journey in three weeks, give or take. We wish them all the best and look forward to hearing their tales of adventure on return.
We also look forward to seeing which team wins the race to Ulaanbaatar.

Award Winning Inverters continue to Power ahead
In the UK there are 6 million laptops and 50 million mobile phones.
Apart from MP3 players, notebooks are the fastest growing category.
All these devices need regular charging and with the exception of phones, there is no easy way to charge whilst in the car.
An inverter that fits in your car takes 12v DC current and turns it into 240v AC current.
The MP:75 and E:Can inverters from Ring Automotive offers customers an in-vehicle charging system for their mobile office equipment and entertainment gadgets, that is reliable, compact, lightweight and easily stored.
The E:Can has the additional feature of a USB socket to charge your MP3 player and other electronic equipment with built in USB charging.
Simply plug the MP:75 or the E:Can into a cigarette lighter socket; you now have 240V AC electricity suitable for powering portable device.
In product tests, these two inverters have been given top awards for how they perform.
The MP:75 was awarded Auto Express’s Best Buy in 2007 and Practical Motorhome’s Editors Choice in 2008.
Auto Express stated “the MP:75 for electricity supply is the top performer. The Maximum load of 75 Watts was reached easily and current loss was minimal.”
Practical Motorhome stated that the “MP:75 was super convenient, perfect for powering laptops, small DVD Players and phone chargers.” Its verdict was that “its low price, top-notch electronics and ease of use combine to make this inverter the number one choice.”
E:Can was awarded Caravan Club Magazine’s Highly Innovative award in 2008.
Caravan Club thought it was a brilliant idea. “You pop the E:can in the drink holder, the cable in you power socket and you have got a handy power supply suitable for MP3 players, PDAs, laptops or mobile chargers.”

RAC600 – A Double Winner
Most motorists know that checking car tyre pressure is one of the essential car maintenance procedures prior to travelling. Yet six per cent of all fatal motorway accidents are caused as a result of blowouts caused by under-inflated tyres.* Under inflated tyres also mean that your engine has to work harder, so more fuel is used and more CO2 emissions are produced**.
Ring Automotive’s RAC600 makes life easy when it comes to pumping up your tyres.
The digital compresspor plugs straight into your car’s 12v cigerette socket and delivers a real punch, inflating tyres quickly and accuratley.
There is no charnce of over inflating either as the unit is equipped with an automatic cut-out facility. The LED display which is also the pressure gauage has been tested against accurate pressure gauge equipment, to provide a spot on reading time and time again.
However don’t just take our word for it. Independent tests carried out by Auto Express and What Car? Magazine state that the RAC600 is the best compresor they have tested to date.
In Auto Express the compressor was awarded the magazines Best Buy, while in What Car? the unit was awarded theWhat Car? Test Winner.
